COVID-19 Update as of May 12, 2020
While Swim Club Management Group continues to prepare your aquatic facility for Re-Opening in anticipation for a successful and safe summer season, we are following and incorporating the rapidly changing federal, state, and local guidelines that evolve almost daily. In a continued effort to share information about aquatic operations during this ever-changing landscape, SCMG has summarized this latest information for each state that we partner with our clients.
Center for Disease Control
The CDC has released official guidance for re-opening public pools and water playgrounds. SCMG has summarized the considerations in the attached document; a significant portion of which was previously covered in a 6-step playbooks distributed by SCMG in anticipation of these recommendations. The Governor issues an Executive Order to transition into Phase 1 on May 5, 2020. The opening of swimming pools are not included in Phase 1, but the aquatics industry anticipates the lifting of the restrictions on closures with the movement into Phase ll which would could happen as early as May 22, 2020.
Facilities in South Carolina are approved to open effective Monday, May 18, 2020. Guidelines for re-opening pools are attached and provide specific parameters on occupancy for facilities, sanitation, supplies, and signage. Facilities in South Carolina should be prepared to only allow 20% of normal occupancy or 5 people (staff and visitors) per 1000 square feet of pool deck area, whichever is less.
The Commonwealth of Virginia has been approved to open outdoor swimming pools for lap swimming only effective Friday, May 15, 2020.
